From Holley Miles:
Daufuskie Island Bald Eagles:
Nesting season has begun. (October - May) I help monitor the Bald Eagles for SCDNR here on Daufuskie and I have already observed activity this season. (In the past we have had active nests at Bloody Point, Melrose, and Haig Point.)
The Bald Eagle is protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Act even though it has been delisted under the Endangered Species Act because of the amazing recovery of the Bald Eagle population. For more information regarding regulations please view the below web site:

8 US islands where summer lasts all year long
Thanks to Daufuskie Island Cottage, and Jay Templeton for sending me this breaking news. Daufuskie Island hits Fox News.
DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C.
Average highs of 61/67 in February/March
Still weaving baskets from the sweetgrass that grows wild along the coast, Daufuskie Island's tiny Gullah population--descended from slaves--carefully tends to its traditions. You can take a peek into local life at landmarks like the white clapboard First Union African Baptist Church, built in the 1880s and still in use today. Less than a quarter of this 5,000-acre island has been developed, leaving plenty of open spaces to explore. (And we mean exploring by foot or by golf cart, as no cars are allowed.) One especially nice excursion point is the Haig Point Lighthouse, which has a tower extending from the roof of an antebellum-style house.
Sleep As you might guess, Daufuskie isn't an all-inclusive-resort kind of place. A good option is the two-bedroom Daufuskie Island Cottage, a vacation-rental property that's on a quiet dirt lane in the historic district. In January and February, the rate drops to $115 (two-night minimum), including use of a golf cart.
Refuel There's nightly live music at Marshside Mama's, which one local calls a "put-your-feet-up place." The ladies in the kitchen ladle out a tasty low-country gumbo.
Easy Escape From Savannah (44 miles), Charleston (116 miles).

Rental Available Dec 22-Jan 4, 2013
Iron Fish ---We have a 3 bedroom cottage on Daufuskie that we would rent from December 22-January 4th. The price is $175/night and that includes a golf cart. If you want to stay longer than 6 nights the house rents for $155/night w/ cart. We have paddle boards and kayaks for your use. We also have two bikes. We live in the historic district 1/2 mile from Daufuskie's county landing aka Marshside Mama's. If you are familiar with Daufuskie, we are The Iron Fish Gallery. We would prefer a family and not so much a party crowd. Another golf cart can be arranged for an extra $30/day. This Christmas, come enjoy the community, great natural environment, and the peace & quiet that makes Daufuskie great. Good fishing too!!! We have dock access available if you have your own boat. AS you probably know, the average temp in December is 58 but if it gets cold, we have a great wood burning fireplace and we have a great fire pit and hammocks out back w/ a gas grill.
